A Cancer patient who was given two weeks to live says clean–eating helps fighting her disease

cancer patient who was given two weeks to live believes ditching takeaways and sugar, and eating healthily instead, has helped her fight the disease.

Natasha Grindley, 37, from Liverpool, said that doctors were surprised she had lived past two weeks after being diagnosed with stomach cancer back in July 2014.

Instead of giving up hope, Grindley swapped takeaways and alcohol for nutritious meals, which she said helped boost her immune system in preparation for chemotherapy.

She told HuffPost UK Lifestyle: "I believe that cutting out refined sugar has helped me fight my disease, and I believe reducing sugar intake has huge benefits for the body."

While her cancer hasn't cleared, Grindley says that it has shrunk since she began her clean-eating diet.

"I’m still getting treated but they are generally shocked that I’m still here," she told The Liverpool Echo.

"This has completely changed my life – my diet was awful before this. I didn’t realise that my body can’t do that, it was making me ill.

"Now I’m like a different person. When you feel that low and then, to be given your body back, it is priceless."

Grindley has since set up a Facebook page called 'Heal For Real' where she shares healthy eating recipes suitable for people with cancer, as well as motivational quotes.

Premier League: Kloop Seek "Solution" To Liverpool Ticket Row

Around 10,000 fans vacated Anfield in the 77th minute of Saturday's 2-2 draw with Sunderland in the Premier League – an absence that was more noticeable when Sam Allardyce's visiting side recovered a two-goal deficit late on to earn an unlikey draw.

Boardroom talks followed the walkout over the club's decision to increase some ticket prices rise to £77 in the new main stand next season.

Klopp missed the game due to appendicitis, but has undergone an operation and will return to oversee matters in the FA Cup fourth-round replay against West Ham at Upton Park on Tuesday night.

"It is not what we want," said Klopp when asked about the fan protest.

"I heard about it (the walkout).

"Now I know it's my problem too, but I have to collect more information.

"We need to find a solution. We don't want that people leave the stadium before the game is finished."

I put a sleep tracker under my sheet and it really changed my life

Sleep—we all know it restores energy, helps manage appetite, protects against illnesses, and is generally essential for all-around good health. (Photo: Getty Images)

And yet, research shows that nearly half of Americans are regularly affected by lack of sleep. So what gives?

For me, like lots of women, nighttime procrastination is a real problem. I know that I need to get to bed, and yet, I just want to watch one more episode of Mozart in the Jungle, or check my Instagram feed one last time, or… you get the idea.

Then, at the Bulletproof Biohacking Conference last fall, I met a representative from Beddit, a company that makes sleep trackers. I was intrigued, if a bit skeptical. What was I supposed to do with all the feedback? And did I have to wear anything? (I’m just not into the wearable devices.)

Turns out, with Beddit you don’t need to sport anything on your wrist or head; you simply attach the device to your mattress and link it to your smartphone. I couldn’t think of any excuses. I figured it was worth a shot.

The pros

There’s a lot to like about Beddit ($119,amazon.com). For one, it’s really easy to use. You download the free app and attach the thin, flat sensor to your mattress under the sheet (and mattress pad, if you use one). It’s as simple as placing a sticker. When you’re ready to hit the hay, you open the app and press “sleep.” The app indicates that it’s tracking you, and you’re off to dreamland.

In the morning, Beddit will wake you up if you like. There’s a regular alarm (you can even set a backup, and a backup to the backup) and a “smart” alarm, which will rouse you up to 30 minutes before your desired time but during a lighter sleep stage, so (in theory, at least) it’s easier and less painful to wake up.

Once you’re conscious you press “I’m up,” and the app gives you an overall score for the quality of your sleep, as well as other data such as your average heart rate and respiration. It also makes observations about variations in your heart rate, anomalies in your respiration, and how long it took you to doze off.

I had always assumed that I wasn’t a great sleeper because I didn’t feel as rested as I wanted to. But over the last two weeks, I’ve learned that I’m actually a great sleeper. My “sleep efficiency” is consistently in the 90s. Check me out—woot woot!

I think in the past I simply wasn’t spending enough hours in bed. And that’s one problem Beddit has helped me solve surprising well.  The fact is, I hate waking up to a low score (especially since the number of hours of sleep I log is completely within my control)—and that, it turns out, is enough motivation to get me into the sack at a decent hour.

It sounds crazy, but using the tracker has cured me of my bedtime procrastination habit.

The cons

Beddit does have some flaws. The sensor’s accuracy could be better. There was one night when I had some trouble falling asleep and read in bed for a while. I even remember thinking that my score in the morning would be woefully low. But it wasn’t. Since I was fairly still while reading, the tracker had assumed I was out, and actually complimented me on falling asleep so quickly.

The other nitpick I have is that the app’s tips are not the greatest. Some are downright unhealthy (like suggesting you down a sodawhen you’re not able to nap); while others are more akin to warnings than advice (“Sleeping less than seven hours per night is associated with being overweight and having diabetes.”)

The bottom line

If you have serious insomnia, or issues likesnoring or sleep apnea, you probably need more help than Beddit can offer. But if you’re a pleaser like me—and can see yourself actually improving your sleep hygiene in pursuit of a higher score—then this tracker could help you finally get the rest your body craves.

Watch: Amanda Holden Is Booed Off Stage By Britain Got Talent Audience

Amanda Holden found herself on the other side of the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel this weekend - and proved a spectacular flop.

Copyright [Wenn]

The Britain’s Got Talent judge was given the cold-shoulder by an unimpressed crowd while attempting to sing Disney classic Let It Go from hit film Frozen.

The 44-year-old threw down her microphone in response to the frosty reception and strutted off stage to a chorus of heckles.

Amanda took to the stage for the impromptu performance after Ant McPartlin joked to the Birmingham Hippodrome audience that she was leaving the show after this series.

Producers then began playing The Spice Girls ‘Goodbye’.

The TV star ran on stage to deny the claims, telling the crowd the news was “utter b**s”. She said: “I’m not leaving. I was thinking that I”m going to have a fantastic song to walk down to.

“I asked for Time Warp or Frozen… and I got the bloody Spice Girls!”

She demanded producers play her Frozen choice, saying “I’m not leaving the stage until you do.”

But her off-key performance was met with boos by the crowd, who chanted “Off! Off! Off!”.

But the good news for Amanda is that she IS through to the next round - of judging that is - after Simon Cowell confirmed she is returning to the Britain’s Got Talent panel next season.

Woman keep mcdonald's meal untouched for six years – and this is the shocking result

A mum claims to have conducted an experiment where she kept a McDonald’s Happy Meal for SIX years – just to see if it would decompose.

Jennifer Lovdahl, from Alaska, in the U.S., posted a status on Facebook about a meal she bought from the fast food chain back in 2010.

She said: “It’s been 6 years since I bought this “Happy Meal” at McDonald’s. It’s been sitting at our office this whole time.”

Shockingly, the attached pictures – one of the box, with receipt, another of the meal itself – show that the food has hardly changed.

She wrote: “[It] has not rotted, moulded, or decomposed at all!!! It smells only of cardboard. We did this experiment to show our patients how unhealthy this “food” is. Especially for our growing children!!

She added: “There are so many chemicals in this food! Choose real food! Apples, bananas, carrots, celery….those are real fast food.”

The picture shows four chicken nuggets with fries, both of which look slightly paler that usual, but otherwise are the same.

The receipt on the box reads 8 January, 2010, although it had not been confirmed that the image is real.

Arsenal have to respond leicester with a win say ramsey

Aaron Ramsey says Arsenal's 2-0 win at AFC Bournemouth was badly needed in order to respond to Premier League leaders Leicester City's excellent victory at Manchester City on Saturday.

Leicester put Manuel Pellegrini's men to the sword with a 3-1 win in a top-of-the-table contest at the Etihad Stadium.

That result meant Arsenal - who had failed to win their previous four league matches - were eight points adrift of the summit heading into their clash at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, but first-half goals from Mesut Ozil and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain trimmed the gap back to five.

Arsenal subsequently jumped above City into third place, and midfielder Ramsey is now focusing on next weekend's mouth-watering contest against Leicester at Emirates Stadium.

"We needed it badly. We realised what Leicester did on Saturday and we needed to close that gap so it was important to get back to winning ways," he told Sky Sports.

"We put in a shift and the game was won in the first half really. There was no room for error and the boys responded really well.

"We have a big game against Leicester next week so I am sure that will be one that everyone will be interested in seeing, but hopefully we can keep this winning run that we are on now."

Team-mate Mathieu Flamini echoed Ramsey's sentiments, saying: "Of course it was important to get back with a victory. We played well in the first half and defended our two goals in the second half.

"It was a good team effort and I am very happy for the team and for the fans. It was a deserved three points."

On the Leicester contest, Flamini added: "Of course it is going to be a big game. But first what we are going to do now is recover because it was a tough game. It is a tough game next week, very important for us and we have to win it."

Ruud van nestlerooy's cheeky response when questioned about old martin....

Nowadays, Martin Keown is most recognisable for being a mild-mannered pundit on BBC's Match of the Day, but once upon a time he was one of the Premier League's toughest defenders.

The former Arsenal centre-back was prone to outburts of anger and Ruud Van Nistlerooy was the victim on a number of occasions most notoriously when he missed a last-minute penalty for Manchester United against the Gunners back in 2003 in a match known as "The Battle of Old Trafford."

Thirteen years on it appears the Dutch striker still holds a grudge against Keown as during a Q&A session at Oxford Union this week he delivered a brilliant response when asked about his old foe.

Watch the first minute of the video below to catch Van Nistlerooy's tongue-in-cheek reply.

Van Nistlerooy left Manchester United for European giants Real Madrid in 2006 after scoring 95 goals in 150 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils. He went on to play for Hamburg and Malaga before retiring in 2012.

Zeo ball reveals husband fitting epitaph as she opens up about her drunken kiss with a 22 year old

Zoe Ball revealed her husband Norman Cook wants his gravestone to read “Norman was a very patient man”, as she opened up about being pictured in a drunken kiss with another man.

The Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host was snapped locking lips with 22-year-old Tay Tay Starzh of boyband Franklin Lake at a boozy Christmas party for the show in December.

But Zoe, 45, said instead of causing friction in their 17 year marriage, the pair laughed off the slip-up.

She told the Mirror: “He has always said he wants his gravestone to read: ‘Norman was a very patient man.’ And that sums it up really!”

She continued: “We have a good understanding of each other. We’re both pretty down-to-earth and the reasons I fell in love with him and we found each other in the first place are still there.

“Norman’s always got time for people. He’s just a beautiful, funny, charming, man. He also loves his job and I love watching him make other people get up and dance and have fun.”

She split from 52-year-old Norman, better known as Fatboy Slim, for three months in 2003 after she had an affair with DJ Dan Peppe, but the two have weathered the storms of their relationship.

They share two children: Woody, 15, and Nelly, five.

And Zoe indicated that she and Norman intend to stay together for many years to come as she revealed their retirement plans.

She continued: “We’ve both said we’ve been really lucky with our jobs in that we love what we do and are still able to do it.

“But we’ve got a retirement plan. We want to run a pub, come post-office, come pet shop. Just what everyone needs.”

With Strictly off our screens, Zoe is now filming a new BBC game show called Can’t Touch This.

Dad notices his screaming baby starts to overheat then he takes a look at her toe

It’s not unusual for babies to cry, scream and get fussy throughout the day. But when Scott Walker’s baby girl was in a fit while they had a family lunch, she started to overheat.
Walker describes on Facebook that his wife, Jess, took off her socks to help cool her down, but what they saw put them in utter shock.

A strand of hair had wrapped around one of her toes, cutting through her skin and constricted her normal blood flow. His wife, Jess, was able to quickly remove it with a pair of tweezers and a magnifying glass.
He wrote on his Facebook page:

Had a small scare this afternoon with Ms. Molly. What happened was new to me, but apparently not totally uncommon, so I figured I'd share with my fellow parents out there.

I was with the family over lunch and Molly was cranky and screaming--nothing out of the ordinary. As worked up as she was getting, she started to overheat, which prompted Jess to remove her socks and cool her down. That's when we saw her toe. This is called a hair tourniquet, which is literally a strand of... hair that, while inside a sock, unexplainably wraps around a toe so tight that it can cut through the skin and potentially cut off blood circulation.

Luckily for Molly, she has a mother with medical emergency superpowers who was able to remove the hair with tweezers and a magnifying glass within a few minutes. This picture was taken about 45 minutes after the hair was removed. Unfortunately, the hair managed to cut all the way through Molly's skin, completely around her toe, but it could have been worse had it gone much longer untreated, or if the hair wasn't accessible.

The doctor told me, for future reference, to always check the toes if the baby is inconsolable. Just an FYI to any parents or care takers out there.

What happened to little Molly is known as hair tourniquet syndrome, which mostly occurs in babies younger than 4 months, commonly found around a finger or toe.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, HT syndrome is rare, but can be dangerous if left untreated. Doctors especially warn new parents that if they’re losing hair at a rapid rate, they should regularly check to ensure no hairs are accidentally entangling their babies’ fingers or toes.
Common symptoms include:
Excessive crying that can’t be soothedRedness and swelling around the infected areaFeverIn severe cases, it can even lead to infection or necrosis, better known as dead tissue and dead cells.
Doctors say HT syndrome can be prevented if you regularly change your babies’ clothes and pay attention to their hands and feet when giving them a bath.
If you notice any of the symptoms mentioned above, contact your doctor immediately.

Kanye West remixes a song to diss Wendy Williams

Kanye has recorded a remixed version of Aerosmith's, Dude (Looks Like a Lady), to get back at Wendy Williams for dissing him on her show over the now squashed beef with Wiz Khalifa.

According to Daily Mail, he is also upset that the TV star has repeatedly talked on air about him being secretly gay and has  called his marriage to Kim Kardashian 'one of convenience.' Wendy has referred to Kim as Kanye's 'beard' a couple of times.

On the track, Kanye made references to untrue rumors that Wendy was born a man and had a sex change which initially circulated in the 1990s during her notorious radio career in New York.

According to the source, Kanye's lyrics went:

'You obsessed with me/Keep testing me/You may be wearing dresses, but you a man like me/Got bigger hands than me/Let me see, your birther please/A dude in a wig that really wanna be me!'

'Kanye played the record for some of the artists he has been collaborating with in the studio and everyone was going crazy.

But Kim has persuaded her rap-star husband not to release the song dissing the chat show host, fearful of the backlash from the trans community, a source exclusively revealed to Daily Mail Online

However when Kim, 35, heard about Kanye's song, she told him to shelve it – despite also wanting Wendy to stop attacking her family.

The reality star told Kanye the song could make him seem transphobic and she was fearful of the fallout following her step-father Bruce Jenner's transition into Caitlyn Jenner.

The insider told Daily Mail Online: 'Kim was concerned that Caitlyn would be offended by the record - it would appear as though Kanye was in some way attacking that movement instead of just targeting Wendy.

'She didn't want Kanye to be labelled trans-phobic.'

Man shot by cop awarded $23.1m

A federal jury awarded $23.1 million on Wednesday to a 22-year-old black man who was unarmed when he was shot and paralyzed by a sheriff's deputy, but Florida lawmakers will have to approve any award above $200,000.
The six-woman, two-man jury ruled after 3 and half  hours of deliberation that Palm Beach County Sheriff's Sgt. Adams Lin violated Dontrell Stephens' civil rights when he shot him in September 2013.

Lin, who had stopped Stephens for riding his bicycle into traffic, testified that he shot Stephens four times because he reached for his waistband with his left hand and then flashed a dark object that he thought was a small handgun. Stephens testified that he was raising his hands when Lin opened fire for no reason. Video from the dashboard camera in Lin's patrol car showed Stephens' left hand was empty and a cellphone was in his right hand.

An appeal is expected and Lin's attorneys could ask Magistrate Judge Barry S. Seltzer to reduce the damages. The jury apparently rejected Lin's claim that he had made an "objectively reasonable mistake" when he shot Stephens. The jurors declined comment as they left the courthouse as did Lin and his attorneys. Lin sat stoically as the verdict was read, while Stephens wept as he was wheeled into the courtroom minutes later. He declined comment.

Jack Scarola, Stephens' lead attorney, said the verdict is a victory not only for his client but for law enforcement officers who have been unfairly stigmatized by unjustified violence against young black men by a small minority of their colleagues. He said the verdict will help restore faith in the justice system among the African-American community.

"This will help good police officers do their duty and be far more effective in their communities," Scarola said.

Under Florida law, the Legislature has to approve any lawsuit payment against a government agency that exceeds $200,000. In the past, legislators have been reluctant to do that, even in non-controversial cases. For example, it took about three years for the Legislature to approve a $3.5 million settlement for a Jacksonville teenager who was paralyzed when a large branch from a city-owned tree broke off and hit him in the head, paralyzing him. The city, admitting fault, had asked for him to be paid.

In another case, it took more than four years for the Legislature to approve a $10.7 million settlement for a teenager who was permanently disabled when a speeding sheriff's deputy plowed into her car. A jury had awarded her $30 million.

Scarola said legislators "would not be fulfilling their sworn obligation" if they failed to approve Stephens' payment. He said they would be overriding a jury that heard all the evidence and found that a "major injustice" had been done, and condemning Stephens to a life of poverty and suffering.
Stephens' attorneys had said from the beginning that they would seek more than $5 million to cover his medical treatment and future care, but they did not mention the amount they would seek for pain and suffering until closing arguments to the jury Wednesday. Attorney Darryl Lewis told jurors Stephens will have more than $6 million in medical and care expenses during his lifetime, and that he deserved at least $18 million for his pain and suffering. An expert testified that he could spend more than 50 years in his condition.

The case was among several nationwide that have sparked debate about the deaths of unarmed black males following encounters with law enforcement officers. Seltzer had instructed jurors that they could consider only the specific circumstances of Stephens' shooting and no other. Lin, an Asian-American, was cleared of criminal wrongdoing by sheriff's investigators and local prosecutors and was later promoted to sergeant.

Lin, 38 and a 12-year veteran of the sheriff's office, testified that he stopped Stephens for riding his bicycle into traffic and because he didn't recognize him from the neighborhood. Stephens, who admitted smoking marijuana earlier that morning and once served 90 days in jail for a felony drug conviction, had been riding to a friend's house after a trip to a convenience store.

In the dashcam video, Lin speeds up his patrol car to catch Stephens as he pedals down a West Palm Beach residential street. Stephens sees Lin and turns into the parking lot of a duplex, hops off his bike and puts it down, his right hand holding his cellphone. Stephens moves behind a car and both men are now outside the camera's view. Stephens testified Lin already had his gun drawn and shot him after he raised his hands. Lin denied that, saying he only drew and fired after Stephens flashed his cellphone like it was a gun.

Scarola told the jury that Lin must have already had his gun pointed at Stephens because he couldn't have seen the cellphone, perceived it as a gun, drawn his own gun and fired in the two seconds Stephens was out of view of the dashcam video.

US President Obama tells Muslims: We are ‘One American family’

US President Barack Obama visited a Maryland mosque on Wednesday to deliver a simple message at a complex time. “We are one American family,” President Obama told the gathered crowd at the Islamic Society of Baltimore. “We will rise and fall together.”

Obama sought to reassure Muslim Americans that the country considers their community essential to the makeup of society, condemn the claim that all Muslims are terrorists, call on the Muslim community to also condemn terrorism, affirm religious freedom, and explain to the whole of America what Islam is and isn’t.

And with the rise of ISIS and in the wake of the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, the president had a lot of ground to cover in the 45 minutes he had to speak.

“We have to reaffirm that most fundamental of truths—we are all God’s children, all born equal with inherent dignity,” Obama said.

He started by telling the story of Islam in the U.S. from a historical perspective, bringing the audience back to the nation’s founding. “Islam,” Obama said, “has always been a part of America.” Muslim slaves ripped from Africa and brought to the U.S., Obama said, did not leave their religion at the shore. He added that religious liberty guaranteed in the Constitution didn’t come with an asterisk, quoting Thomas Jefferson’s declaration that “the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan [or Muslim]” were all to be protected.

Looking out across the room, he marked the contributions of Muslims within American society. He asked the service-members in the audience to stand and thanked them for their service. He cheered Ibtihaj Muhammad, the champion fencer who will become the first U.S. athlete to compete while wearing a hijab during the 2016 Summer Olympics.

“Muslim Americans are some of the most resilient and patriotic Americans you’ll ever meet, he said.

And through the personal letters he gets from Muslims of all ages across the country, he noted the fear many feel just being themselves.

President Obama spoke of a mother whose “heart cries every night” thinking about how her child could face taunts and bullying at school.

He mentioned a 13-year-old girl from Ohio who simply wrote, “I’m scared.” Before the speech, the president got a sense of how Muslims are feeling first hand. He sat down with about a dozen people from across the country for open dialogue about the state of their community.

Obama slammed “inexcusable” anti-Muslim rhetoric. “An attack on one faith is an attack on all our faiths,” he said. “We can’t be bystanders to bigotry. Together, we have to show that America truly protects all faiths.”

The president’s historic first visit to a mosque while in office had been long awaited by many, but for some—like Sabah Muktar, the young woman who introduced the President on Wednesday, it came just in time.

“This visit by our president is an affirmation to all Muslims we are just as American as any other,” she said.

Rick Ross shows off wall-to-wall rare Air Jordans in 109-room mansion

Rapper Rick Ross was placed on house arrest last year after being accused of pistol-whipping an employee.

But as Rick Ross opened up his lavish 109-room Georgia mansion to The Coveteur, it became clear that the ruling was far from a punishment.

Featuring a dedicated footwear closet lined with wall-to-wall Air Jordans, stacks of luxury goods, and plenty of gaudy gold, the home has every amenity a rapper with some unexpected downtime could wish for.

Rick Ross has the type of trainer collection that will make any sneakerhead salivate, with wall-to-wall rare Air Jordans and other sneakers in several large wardrobe spaces.

He even has a designated space for leather good from German luxury brand Modern Creation Munich complete with bags, luggage, jackets and even several stuffed animals featuring with their signature pattern. Plus a rather large jewellery collection and several Versace items in his home.

Rick certainly seemed to be excited about the piece on him as he promoted it by sharing a photo from the shoot with the caption: '@thecoveteur #ROZAY article is up. @jakerosenberg @vanitygroupnyc.'

Rick was sentenced to house arrest last July, after spending a week in jail following his conviction for hitting a gardener for throwing a party there while he was out of town.

After three months at home, his lawyers successfully argued that the ruling was costing him money, and was not needed as his victim did not live nearby.

Back in February of 2014, the Miami-based rapper spent $5.8 million to buy the foreclosed Georgia mansion of former boxing champ Evander Holyfield.

He purchased the home which the 53-year-old retired fighter had to sell to a bank at a public auction as part of a foreclosure for $7.5 million in 2012.

The enormous 54,000 square-foot mansion sits on 235 acres and is the largest single family home in the state of Georgia.

Located outside of Atlanta, the compound features 109 rooms, including 12 bedrooms and an astonishing 21 bathrooms.

Other amenities include a bowling alley, home theater and a 350,000 gallon pool, which apparently is the largest in the nation.

If that wasn't lavish enough, there's also a seven-stall barn, baseball field with lights and a scoreboard, an indoor pool, separate boxing gym, recording studio, and guest house.

Evander once claimed the home cost more than $1 million annually to maintain with an electric bill reportedly costing $17,000 a month.

Will Smith reveals Jada didn't warn him before boycotting the Oscars

Jada Pinkett Smith made headlines around the world by posting a video detailing her decision to boycott the Oscars.

But her husband Will Smith has revealed that he did not know about Jada's stance beforehand - and only learnt that he would not be attending the Academy Awards when questioned by the media.

'I was out of the country when she made the video,' the actor explained on BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show on Tuesday.

'I was in Thailand. And I get off of the plane and you know, the paparazzi were like, "Will, Will, you're not going to the Oscars! What do you think about Jada's video?"

"Um, I think, give me a second, let me call-" I had no idea. I had no idea and I'm like, "Babe, you gotta give a fellow a little heads up, you know? Just a lil something, just, "Hey babe, you know, hit me before you walk out of the airport." You know, give me, give me something."'

'I got in the car and Googled and watched the video,' he added. 'I was like, "Honey, is there anything you need to tell me?" She said, "Oh, I didn't want to bother you on vacation."

'"Uh, you did. You really did."'

Will also clarified that the decision to boycott the Oscars was not about whether he personally received a nomination.

'This is an issue of a really regressive trend, not just in Hollywood but in my country,' he said. 'It’s not about me or being nominated.'
